Rayman Legends received critical acclaim upon release. However, the game was delayed to February 2013 in order to put the finishing touches to the game, and due to the financial failure of ZombiU, the release was delayed again by six months and the game was made multi-platform. Rayman Legends was announced at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2012 for Wii U and was planned for release during the console's launch window. A Nintendo Switch port, titled Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, was released in North America, Europe and Australia on September 12, 2017. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were released in February 2014, with a Stadia version released in November 2021. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PlayStation Vita platforms in August and September 2013. It is the fifth main title in the Rayman series and the direct sequel to the 2011 game Rayman Origins. Thoroughly recommended.Rayman Legends is a platform video game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. If you haven’t already played the brilliant Rayman 3, this is it at its best. Right down from the introductory conflict between your guide, Murphy and the in-game manual, to the ridiculous relationship forged between Globox and Andre over time the prose are consistently entertaining and remain the highlight of the experience. What stands out most, in this Rayman especially, is the quality of the writing. They add a much needed twist to the tried and true and help set the game apart from other platformy titles. One example allows the lad to guide missiles around the level (see above) and another allows him to spidey-swing his way across stages using electrified grappling hooks. The game plays very much like its predecessors with one notable element added: by finding magical detergent canisters, Rayman dons a new outfit, giving him an awesome super power. Whilst it isn’t as stunning as its new 2D baby-brother, it definitely packs an interesting, colourful and well-realised aesthetic. The visuals have upgraded nicely as their focus was always clarity over intense detail. The game is pretty much untouched, providing a linear journey through some truly bizarre settings wherein Rayman can punch, jump and helicopter his way towards his insane goal purging poor Globox of Andre – the snarky fur-ball antagonist who accidentally found his way inside the blue fella’s stomach.
As soon as everyone’s favourite limbless hero reappeared on the Playstation store, promoting his third PS2 installment in HD glory, I bought it almost immediately. Rayman 3 remains, to this day, one of the greater of Ubisoft’s few achievements.
